Frequently Asked Questions

What do you do?

We work with individuals and families to create comprehensive wealth strategies; including financial planning, investment management, and estate/succession planning. We also serve as investment managers for corporate 401k plans, ensuring they remain compliant, robust, and are providing genuine value to their employees. Our clients work with us because we save them time, energy, and stress while achieving better financial outcomes.

Where are you based?

Our office is located in Tempe, Arizona next to Tempe Town Lake and the ASU campus. As an SEC-registered advisor, we can work with clients from all 50 states, and a large portion of our clients live in states other than Arizona. With software like Zoom and Microsoft Teams, many of our meetings are held virtually at our clients’ convenience.

Are you a fiduciary?

We are a fee-only fiduciary advisor. We do not sell financial products tied to commissions, such as annuities or life insurance, but we have helped many of our clients find optimal products. By law, we are required to give advice and guidance based solely in our clients best interests.

What does your service model look like?

When meeting with prospective clients for the first time, we conduct a series of meetings to understand your current financial picture, as well as what the future looks like. After understanding your unique situation, we will create a proposal designed to help you achieve your goals. If you like the proposal, we will enact any immediate changes, such as signing agreements or transferring accounts, and set up a cadence to meet. Once you’re officially a client, we can meet as little or as often as you’d like!

What is your fee?

Our official policy is to provide a series of initial consultations at no cost or obligation. This will never change, and until there is a clear roadmap for your personal plan, portfolio, and retirement, you will not have to pay anything. This also applies to 401k plans, where we will analyze your company’s investment menu and source quotes from at least 3 other payroll, recordkeeping, and third-party administration companies. For clients, we bill a negotiable AUM-based fee that will not exceed 1.5% of the assets we manage.

Who do you work with?

We work with professionals and businesses from all walks of life, whether in healthcare, telecom, trades, or for the government. Our clients value their time, and trust us to guide them prudently in their financial path. We do not have a minimum account size, but utilize discretion when taking on new clients.

Where are my assets held?

Currently we custody with Charles Schwab. Custody for 401k plans is established on an individual basis—usually determined by the plan recordkeeper.

How do you invest?

Our methods of investment strategy evaluation include charting analysis, cyclical analysis, fundamental analysis, Modern Portfolio Theory, quantitative analysis, and technical analysis. We typically create portfolios of 30-35 U.S. equities, using an active trading approach to manage risk. If you would like to see our current portfolio, email alexander_pehar@optimacapitalmgt.com

What is a Self-Directed Brokerage Account?

A self-directed brokerage account (SDBA) may be available to individuals at certain companies. An SDBA account allows investors greater freedom in their choices, such as individual stocks, bonds, ETFs, as well as the ability to have someone manage their portfolio for them.
